Winter is not letting go of very easily, and it doesn’t seem to be easing its grip for the next two weeks. For that reason don’t be surprised to see many of our planned sporting events be postponed or canceled until the weather changes. Along with not being able to compete, very few of our spring athletes have even gotten the chance to practice outside. With our gyms filled with four separate sports, Junior High sports haven’t even gotten a chance to begin practices and probably won’t until everyone moves outdoors.

Long range forecasts are saying that we MIGHT get temperatures in the 50s by late next week, but don’t count on it. If temps do get warm enough to melt the snow, most fields will be way too muddy. The key here is to be patient. We are all craving to get outside and leave winter, but this is Minnesota.

Fair warning, with games and meets being postponed until later in the season, the schedules are going to be packed tightly when the weather does get nice! Track and golf meets, which can already be all-day affairs, could become everyday affairs. Double-headers for baseball and softball will be common.

That means, while kids aren’t missing school now, later on they could be missing a lot. This is not an uncommon occurrence. This happens every year with our spring sport season. Sadly, this winter seems especially keen on sticking around for a while.
